BOMBER BENNETT HITS FIVE!
(UNDER-15)
Barry Black, Saturday 8 November 2008
Lisburn Youth 6 - 1 Ballymena United
Lisburn Youth started like a house on fire. They won all the 50-50's and never let Ballymena settle from the off!
With Barton, Cummings and Lawless for Lisburn dominating the midfield it didn't take long for the breakthrough to come. Good work from Bennett won a corner which Barton fired in for Lawless to head brilliantly into the net giving the keeper no chance.
Mitchell and Bennett up front had Ballymena run ragged in the first half with good work from Boyd on the right, and Bennett got his reward when he scored with a fine left foot volley past the helpless keeper for 2-0.
Barton, Lawless and Mitchell all had efforts well saved by the Ballymena keeper who was best for them on the day.
HALF-TIME LISBURN YOUTH 2 BALLYMENA 0
The second half started with Ballymena buzzing. They poured forward in search a goal that would give them hope with McBride in goal having to make some very good saves most notibly when in a 1 on 1 which he saved with his feet.
Lisburn's outstanding attitude was rewarded with a 3rd goal and it was another cracker from Bennett again set-up by the impressive strike partner, Mitchell.
Lisburn's defence Pip, Haughey, Hainon and Wilson were excellent on the day with Lawless sweeping infront and keeper McBride sweeping behind but they were breached once when they're only moment of slack defending resulted in what turned out to be a consolation strike from Ballymena.
Ballymena's spirit was ended when again and again and again Mitchell assisted Bennett for Bennett's 3rd, 4th and 5th goals of what was an outstanding performance in making it 6-1 to Lisburn.
Goal of the day came for that man Bennett. McBride rose among a mass of bodies on his 6 yard line plucking a corner out of the sky. He rolled out to Haughey who set Boyd on his way. Boyd played a delightful left footed ball into the inside left position where Mitchell tricked his way past the fullback to fire a cross to Bennett who gave the keeper no chance. 20 seconds after Ballymena took a corner they were picking the ball out of the net, what a team goal!
Bennett hit 5 brilliant stirikes including a perfect set - left and right foot and headed goals in what was a great display in a great team performance from Lisburn who are showing more confidence by the game and on this form will be a real handful for Banbridge on Saturday 9.30 at Dromore.
Well done lads!

LISBURN WINS DERBY BATTLE
(UNDER-10)
Glenn Smilie, Saturday 8 November 2008
Lisburn Youth 4 - 0 Hillsborough Boys
On Saturday Lisburn Youth entertained Hillsborough Boys at Loughmoss in what proved to be a hard fought derby match, writes Glenn Smilie.
The first half was a one sided affair with a strong Lisburn out-fit dominating from the beginning. Lisburn opened the scoring after 15 minutes when they got their reward for persistent pressure when goal machine Brad Ferguson scored with a superb strike.
The strong Lisburn midfield of Jamie Pegg and Sean McAllister controlled proceedings as they have done all season.
Half-Time LISBURN YOUTH 1 HILLSBOROUGH BOYS 0
The second half started as the first ended with Lisburn in a dominant mood. The back 4 of McEnhill, Sharvin, Hanna and Thompson were in no mood to give anything away keeping Hillsborough to a couple of long range efforts.
All 5 subs were again used by Lisburn and that didn't weaken the team in the slightest, in fact the lads coming on made all the difference and it wasn't long before the goals started to flow.
Caoimhin McConnell went on up front and grabbed himself 2 well taken goals to make the score line more reflective of Lisburn's dominance.
Caoimhin's partner in attach was the hard working Michael Byrne. Michael got himself on the scoresheet for what was a magnificently worked goal after some brilliant football to make it 4-0.
Lisburn's dominance could and probably should have resulted in more goals but they failed to take more of the many chances they created.
Best on the day for Lisburn were Lewis Hanna, Jordan Pegg and the industrious Jack Sharvin.
Well Done Lads.

NOEL LAYS DOWN THE LAW!
(UNDER-15)
Barry Black, Saturday 8 November 2008
Lisburn Youth 7 - 1 Armagh City
Armagh started this game like a house on fire. They centred the ball and before Lisburn even touched it, they were a goal down. After some neat passes a long ball found their right winger, he crossed to the back post. Lisburn had two chances to clear but didn't and the centre forward fired a right foot shot hard and low into the net to Ryan McBride's left.
It only served as a wake-up call for Lisburn as within minutes a cross from the right was headed goalwards by impressive Josh Barton and Captain James Haughey was on hand to bundle over the line from close range at the back post.
The second came after good play on the right from Ross Boyd, he cut inside taking on the Armagh defence and layed the ball inside to Neil Cummings played a lovely slide rule ball into the inside right channel. Hard-working Brendan Bennett starting up front for the first today, raced onto the throughball and fired a magnificent right foot shot low across the keeper for 2-1 at the interval.
HALF-TIME LISBURN YOUTH 2 ARMAGH CITY 1
The second half began as the first ended with Lisburn on top but playing up hill and against the wind. Good work from Barton on the left found Noel Lawless, he turned and fired a lovely right footed curler into the far top corner. By this stage Barton, Lawless and Haughey in the middle were controlling the game with good work from Pip Egerton down the right.
Chances came thick and fast for Lisburn with Andy Mitchell and Brendy going close before Lawless got the 4th and his second direct from a free kick, again curling a cracking shot into the keepers far post.
All 5 changes were made and with Pip now playing in midfield, it was his brilliant footwork and vision which found the hard working Thomas McKeown who fired hard and low into the bottom right corner for number 5.
2 more subs combined in Migel Belo and Jackie Johnstone down the right and Miguel slipped in Johnstone who poked home from 10 yards past the helpless Armagh keeper for 6-1.
Number 7 followed when wee Thomas dinked inside a defender in the box and was up-ended. Full of confidence he took the spot kick himself and fired hard into the net from 12yards for his second and Lisburn's seventh.
Another good display from Lisburn to outline their up-turn in form, long may it continue!! Well done lads!
Next for Lisburn is a top of the table clash against Ballymena United, 9.30 at Ballymacoss on Saturday!
Good Luck!!

OFFSIDE DECISION RUINS CHANCE OF THREE POINTS
(UNDER-17)
Stuart Green, Saturday 1 November 2008
Lisburn Youth 2 - 2 Lurgan Town
A frustrating day for Lisburn, who along with the referee did themselves no favours, especially in the defensive third. It all started very poorly with Lurgan looking like they wanted the match more than our sleepy team. Leckey gave the ball away in his own half and the Lurgan forward danced through the hapless Lisburn defence and poked it home off the post. Then Parker went close with a neat shot just wide. Lurgan won a free kick out on the touch line which they tossed in hoping for the best. Allsopp came and missed the ball and the Lurgan midfielder tucked it away.
A terrible day so far, but it was starting to look brighter when Mulligan should have scored, then Cullen went close aswell. Kevin Parker was playing very well now and held the ball up well. Fitzpatrick was wonderful at the back and he was holding it together for us. Then the farce started when Lisburn raced through twice with just the keeper to beat but the Referee from Lurgan blew for off side, strange.
Into the second half and Lisburn were in total control, even if the ref had other ideas. Cullen raced through, only for Lurgan's keeper to save it well but the rebound came out to Gracey who knocked it goalwards only for there centre half to save it, penalty and a sending off. Cullen scored easily from the spot. We were bombing forward now and in the last minute Cullen lobbed the keeper 2 - 2. If we had started today from the off rather waiting untill 30 minutes had passed we would have won comfortably.
Man of the Match - Ben Cullen

GREAT SCOTT!
(UNDER-17)
Stuart Green, Saturday 25 October 2008
Lisburn Youth 4 - 0 Sunnyside
Great day for Lisburn, with some smashing football. The writing looked to be on the wall right from the start, with the talented Parker going close several times. Mulligan was doing some wonderful work down the right as well as the brilliant Scott on the left who only came on for Leckey after five minutes. The first goal took a while coming which was strange for the amount of changes that was coming our way. What a goal it was though. Mulligan picked the ball up just over the half way and strode to the edge of the box and unleashed a thunderbolt into the top corner. Cullen then went close with a great shot which went just wide.
The second half started with a bang with Scott heading home from a corner. The chances were coming thick and fast and Cullen should maybe done better when unmarked in the box. Scott then fed Parker a super ball which he took and thundered home. The scoreline was looking realistic and Cullen soon rounded the game off with the goal of the game when he beat four men and calmly beat the keeper.
Great team performance with Parker, Scott, Mulligan Cullen and Strain all on top of their games.
Man of the Match - Andre Scott

A STRONG PERFORMANCE FROM ALL THE LADS
(UNDER-10)
Glenn Smilie, Saturday 1 November 2008
Lisburn Youth 3 - 0 Dungoyne United
On Saturday Lisburn Youth Under 10's took on a strong Dungoyne side at Loughmoss, Carryduff.
The first half was a tight affair but Lisburn's defence put in a solid display, with James Thompson controlling everything and Eoin Barrett being largely a spectator in the Lisburn goal.
Josh Robinson, making his full debut, battled well up front with Brad Ferguson.
After 15 minutes Lisburn took the lead from a corner with Brad Ferguson keeping his cool to tuck home into the corner of the net.
Half Time - Lisburn Youth 1 Dungoyne 0
Lisburn started the second half fast, putting Dungoyne on the back foot from the off. The second goal came as a reward after good work from Jordan Pegg on the left. He played a lovely ball through the middle for Lisburn Captain Mark Finnegan to race on to and calmly slot home for a well deserved goal.
Lisburn made all 5 subs with 20 minutes to go and to their credit didn't weaken the team.
Lisburn kept the pressure on and the third goal came from the hard working debutant Josh Robinson.
Best for Lisburn on the day were Jason Sharvin, Jamie Pegg and Dominic McEnhill. But it was a strong performance from all the lads.
Well Done and good luck for next week!!

LISBURN'S DEFENCE HOLDS FIRM
(UNDER-15 SHIELD QUARTER-FINAL)
Barry Black, Saturday 1 November 2008
Lisburn Youth 1 - 0 Ballymena United
Lisburn won this tight encounter thanks to a wonder goal from Josh Barton who has just returned from trials at Ipswich. Scores were level with Lisburn having most of the play and possession when Barton picked up the ball and drove at the Ballymena defence. He cut in from the left going past 3 defenders before firing a brilliant winner past the helpless Ballymena keeper.
Ballymena pressed for a leveller late on but the Lisburn defence held firm to reach the shield semi final.
Well done lads.
Next up is a league encounter against Armagh on Saturday 9.30 at the Barbour.

A WONDER GOAL FROM CLEGG
(UNDER-16)
Barry Black, Saturday 1 November 2008
Lisburn Youth 1 - 0 Lurgan Town
Lisburn Youth stayed unbeaten in the league and remained top of the early season table thanks to a wonder goal from Christopher Clegg.
It was a hard fought victory for Lisburn without their internationals and the impressive Niall Quinn who was on trial at Leicester City, but a fully deserved victory nonetheless.
Keeper Stephen McCullough was protected well by his back 4, keeping Lurgan at long range throughout. Niall Quinn mark II was in good form down the left putting in several tantalising crosses and with some better finishing Lisburn might have had a few more.
Half Time - Scoreless
The second half began with a bang! From the kick off Lisburn strung some nice passes together resulting in a fine pass from David Saulters for Clegg in the right channel. Clegg turned his man and banged an unstoppable right footed shot high into the top corner giving the keeper no chance.
The impressive and hard working duo of captain Curtis Black and Stuart Adams ran their socks off chasing a second goal but it didn't come.
In the last 5 minutes Lurgan pressed for an equaliser with a succession of corners but Morrison, Prentice, Saulters and Glover held firm.
Next up for Lisburn is Newhill on Saturday 11.15 at Barbour. Good Luck Lads!
Final Score - Lisburn Youth 1 Lurgan Town 0

A WELL DESERVED HARD-FOUGHT WIN
(UNDER-10)
Barry Black, Saturday 25 October 2008
Lisburn Youth 3 - 1 Castle Juniors
George Best Castlereagh Youth League- The match was played in dreadful conditions at Ward Park, Bangor with the boys having to contend with heavy rain, strong winds and a terrible muddy pitch. Fair credit is due to both sets of players for their attitude and commitment in not only dealing well with the conditions but in putting on a game of such standard. The first half was a close encounter with chances at both ends. It was Lisburn who would take the lead through a fine effort from Brad Ferguson who went on to have an excellent game. The home side however would level things up just before the half time whistle.
The second half saw Lisburn take control of the game. The ball was well held up by the Lisburn Youth centre forward linking the play with the midfield. Jamie Pegg in particular was having an influential game in the middle of the park. The goal of the match came from young Ben Davis, scoring direct from a corner kick to put Lisburn Youth 2-1 in front. Castle deserve credit as they stuck in there and nearly got themselves a second goal but for a great save from Lisburn Keeper Eoin Barrett. It would prove to be their last opportunity as Lisburn went on to have chance after chance. The killer third goal would arrive a few minutes before full time as young Josh Robinson finished with a typical strikers finish in the 6 yard box. Final score 3-1 to Lisburn Youth in a well deserved hard fought win. 10 out of 10 for both teams for their effort on the day. Next up for Lisburn U10's is Dungoyne in what should be another difficult game.

LISBURN COMFORTABLE AT THE SHANKILL
(UNDER-15)
Barry Black, Saturday 25 October 2008
Lisburn Youth 7 - 2 Shankill Juniors
Lisburn put their disappointment of the last few weeks behind them away to the Shankill. Through the gail force winds and torrential rain Lisburn dominated throughout. From the off Andrew Mitchell and Pip Egerton were terrorising the Shankill defence, forcing saves from the Shankill Keeper.
With the influential Josh Barton being rested before his week long trial at Ipswich, the new look midfield of Neil Cummings, Brendan Bennett and Aidan Cochrane with Noel Lawless as the anchor man dealt with everything threw at them, earning the right to play the attractive football we all know they are capable of.
The back 4 of Denver Teggart, big Clarke Hanion, Captain James Haughey and Ian Wilson along with Keeper Ryan McBride defended well in the most horrible conditions.
Lisburn ran out comfortable winners 7-2 with goals from Andy Mitchell (3), Pip Egerton, Brendan Bennett, Noel Lawless and International import Miguel Belo.
Next up is Ballymena in the Shield at the Rec 9.30 ko.
